THIS STUDY ATTEMPTED TO DETERMINE IF SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF MALE TRAINING SCHOOL PAROLEES WERE RELATED TO RECIDIVISM.
Abstract
SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS WERE CHOSEN FOR THE RESEARCH AND APPLIED TO JUVENILE MALES WHO ATTENDED A BOY'S TRAINING SCHOOL (BTS) IN A MIDWESTERN STATE FROM 1961 THROUGH 1964. THE CHARACTERISTICS WERE AGE AT FIRST POLICE RECORD, GRADE LEVEL COMPLETED WHEN LEAVING THE TRAINING SCHOOL, SIBLING ORDER, LENGTH OF STAY AT BTS, AGE WHEN FIRST SENT TO BTS, NUMBER OF SIBLINGS, AND SUBJECT'S IQ ON ARRIVAL AT BTS. THE SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS AND RECIDIVISM WERE ANALYZED IN A MULTILINEAR REGRESSION FRAMEWORK. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE CHARACTERISTICS SELECTED WERE NOT VERY USEFUL IN PREDICTING RECIDIVISM.
