ANALYSIS OF RESULTS OF THE CAMBRIDGE STUDY IN WHICH BOYS AT TWO AGES (14-15 AND 16-17) WERE GIVEN A SELF-REPORTED DELINQUENCY SCHEDULE FOLLOWED BY A PERSONAL INTERVIEW ASKING ABOUT POLICE CONTACTS AND COURT APPEARANCES.
Abstract
THE BROAD CONCLUSION FROM THIS STUDY IS THAT OFFICIAL DELINQUENTS (I.E. THOSE WITH POLICE OR COURT RECORDS) ADMIT TO JUST OVER 75 PER CENT OF THEIR KNOWN OFFENCES. THE AUTHOR FEELS THAT THESE FINDING SUPPORT THE CONTINUED USE OF SELF-REPORT TECHNIQUES AS A MEASURE OF DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR, BUT RECOMMENDS THAT THEY BE INTERPRETED CAUTIOUSLY.
