COMPARISON OF OUTCOMES OF ASSIGNING STUDENTS TO VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS CONGRUENT WITH VOCATIONAL TEST SCORES OR CONSISTENT WITH THEIR STATED INTERESTS.
Abstract
THE VOCATIONAL TEST UTILIZED IN THIS STUDY WAS THE MINNESOTA VOCATIONAL INTEREST INVENTORY. STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS CONGRUENT WITH THEIR TESTED INTERESTS OBTAINED HIGHER RATINGS ON A NUMBER OF VOCATIONAL AND PERSONAL-SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT VARIABLES THAN DID STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO PROGRAMS INCONGRUENT WITH THEIR TEST RESULTS. THERE WAS A TENDENCY FOR THESE DIFFERENCES TO OCCUR MOST OFTEN AND AT HIGHER SIGNIFICANCE LEVELS ON THOSE VARIABLES MOST RELATED TO VOCATIONAL ADJUSTMENT. STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO PROGRAMS CONGRUENT WITH THEIR STATED INTERESTS DID NOT OBTAIN SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER ADJUSTMENT RATINGS THAN STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO PROGRAMS INCONGRUENT WITH THEIR STATED INTERESTS.
