Abstract
This report from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reports on the activities of the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the years 2001 through 2008. The report has five main sections: 1) a description of the role of the Coordinating Council, its statutory responsibilities, structure, current goals, and approaches to its work; 2) a review of the priorities and framework that have guided the Council's recent work; 3) an historical review of the Council's work, including highlights of activities from 1996 through 2008; 4) details of the achievements of the Council under the current Administration; and 5) recommendations to Congress for future action. The Council's recent achievements include: 1) strengthening the practice of inter/intra agency youth-focused collaboration as measured by increases from year to year in the number of inter-agency collaborations on juvenile justice issues; 2) increasing the knowledge, dissemination, and use of evidence-based programs in juvenile justice; and 3) elevating the importance of a comprehensive juvenile justice agenda at the Federal level, and achieving an increased alignment of goals between the juvenile justice and other systems at all levels of government.
