Abstract
The report explains provisions of the Justice Assistance Act of 1984, which established OJP to oversee criminal justice research and statistics, as well as administer a new program of financial and technical assistance to State and local governments. After listing budget allocations for key OJP programs, the report highlights 1986 activities in areas directly controlled by OJP, such as the Office for Victims of Crime and Office of Civil Rights Compliance. Accomplishments of the four major agencies are highlighted.
