Fifteen organizations responded to the request of the Department of Justice with their views on legislative proposals relating to drug abuse and drug law enforcement that the Department should advance, support, oppose, or forego.
Abstract
The complete texts of the submissions contained in this report suggest that law enforcement leaders advocate a substantial strengthening of investigative, arrest, prosecution, custodial, penal, rehabilitative, dissuasive, and educational efforts at State and local levels as well as at the Federal level. Also identified is the need for increased allocations of State and local government resources. The submissions (directed primarily to issues of Federal policies, operations, programs, and law) propose recommendations in several areas including: public education, structure and coordination of effort, investigation and enforcement activities, prosecution, punishment, and related concerns.
