Oregon's Uniform Crime Reporting program collected statistics for four offense groups in 1990: crimes against persons; crimes against property; behavioral crimes; and traffic, fish and game, and marine violations.
Abstract
In 1990, total reported crimes in Oregon decreased by 1.6 percent over 1989. The 1990 total crime rate per 100,000 population was 13,861, a 3.4 percent decrease from 1989. Overall, crimes against persons increased by 4.4 percent, crimes against property decreased by 5.3 percent, and behavioral crimes increased by 2.3 percent from 1989 to 1990. Specifically, there were 16 more bank robberies in 1990 than in 1989. Increases were also reported for arson, fraud, embezzlement, and vandalism. Decreases were reported for burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, forgery and counterfeiting, and stolen property offenses. Property and money valued at $166.4 million were reported stolen, damaged, or destroyed by criminal acts in 1990. Increases were reported for such behavioral crimes as weapon law, drunk driving, and disorderly conduct offenses and for juvenile runaways. Decreases were reported for prostitution, drug, gambling, family, and juvenile curfew offenses. Traffic crime and marine violations increased, while fish and game violations decreased. Total arrests for 1990, excluding traffic, fish and game, and marine violations, increased by 1.9 percent over 1989. Adult arrests increased by 0.4 percent, while juvenile arrests increased by 3.4 percent. Arrests for crimes against persons rose by 9.5 percent, and arrests for crimes against property decreased by 1.1 percent. County crime data, State and county arrest information, law enforcement employee data, and officer assault information are also provided. Appendixes contain crime reporting definitions and information on the statistical methods used in data collection. Tables
