Abstract
The Open-ended Interim Working Group of Government Experts on Technical Assistance was established by the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime to develop proposals for technical assistance activities to support the work of the Conference. This report presents the 15 recommendations that were developed by the Interim Working Group at its October 19-20, 2010, meeting in Vienna, Austria. Some of these recommendations include: acknowledging the continued need for technical assistance to ensure the effective implementation of United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols thereto; welcome efforts by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to more visibly integrate the Convention and its Protocols into its assistance programs; endorse the strategic and comprehensive approach adopted by UNODC regarding research and data collection; and requesting UNODC to continue to share information gathered on technical assistance needs, especially at the country level. A summary of working papers developed by the Interim Working Group is also presented.
