This report from the United Nations presents an update on the meeting of the Working Group on Trafficking in Persons held in Vienna, Austria, from October 10-12, 2011.
Abstract
The meeting of the Working Group on Trafficking in Persons was held in Vienna, Austria in October 2011 in response to a decision by the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. This report presents the recommendations adopted by the Working Group, the recommendations endorsed by the Working Group, the organization of the meeting, a list of member states in attendance, and a summary of deliberations regarding the recommendations adopted by the Working Group. The Working Group adopted recommendations for the following: trafficking in persons for the purpose of removal of organs; analysis of the key concept of "abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability" in article 3 of the Trafficking in Persons Protocol; victims of trafficking in persons, with particular emphasis on identification; international cooperation in combating trafficking in persons with respect to addressing supply and demand, capacity-building, and awareness-raising; and proposed areas for future work. A list of 10 recommendations is also provided that were proposed by the Chair of the Working Group at its meeting held in October 2010.
