This is the report by the Violence Prevention Advisory Task Force established by the Minnesota Legislature to study state violence-prevention programs and recommend measures to eliminate violence in the State.
Abstract
To eliminate violence in Minnesota, the Task Force recommends five goals: (1) Raise social awareness; (2) Change public attitudes from tolerance of violence to nontolerance; (3) Improve the indicators of citizen well-being, especially child well-being; (4) Increase those factors that improve the safety and overall health of Minnesotans; and (5) Reduce the personal, familial, and environmental risk factors associated with violence. The Task Force recommended 15 actions to the Minnesota Legislature and fourteen actions for Minnesota State agencies. The report includes sections on what contributes to violence; risk indicators in Minnesota; the causes of violence; the costs of violence; effective prevention strategies; a funding plan; an inventory of Minnesota violence-prevention services.
