This report presents recommendations for actions to meet the goals announced by President Reagan in August 1986 in the following six areas related to drug abuse prevention, treatment, and control: (1) drug-free workplaces, (2) drug- free schools, (3) expanded drug treatment and research, (4) improved international cooperation to address drug trafficking, (5) strengthened drug law enforcement, and (6) increased public awareness and prevention.
Abstract
For goals 1, 2, 3, and 6, the report explains the importance of the goals, the initiatives recommended to achieve each goal, the actions to be taken for each initiative, and the expected results. Initiatives to achieve goals 4 and 5 were recommended by the National Drug Enforcement Policy Board. The report also notes that legislative recommendations for the overall initiative have been incorporated into a six-title legislative package that conforms to the President's six goals.
