This report presents statistics on the 209,361 offenses that were reported to the police or became known to the police in South Australia during 1995, as well as data on longitudinal trends in selected crime categories.
Abstract
The number of crimes increased 0.9 percent from 1994 and decreased 2.1 percent from 1993. Almost two-thirds (65.7 percent) of the offenses were property crimes, less than 1 percent were sex offenses, 8 percent were other personal offenses, 12.8 percent were public order offenses, 9.3 percent were traffic law offenses, 2.1 percent were drug law offenses, and 0.7 percent were robbery and extortion. The total number of offenses against the person has steadily increased since the early 1980s, but the rate of increase now seems slowing. Major assaults and minor assaults have both decreased, but the number of attempted murders seems to be increasing. Figures and list of other publications from the same organization
