Annotation

This volume presents reports on two 1991 conferences as well as the 1991 annual report and statistical data regarding case processing in appellate and Federal district courts in the United States.

Abstract

Issues considered during the conferences included the use of cameras in the courtroom, videoconferencing, filing by facsimile, the automation of bankruptcy courts, and other uses of technology in courts. The conferences also focused on legal issues related to Federal and State jurisdiction, judicial ethics, salaries, judge positions, court facilities, drug treatment and aftercare, and court administration. The annual report notes a 3-percent increase in appeals filed in the 12 regional courts of appeals in 1991, a 5-percent decrease in civil case filings, a 4-percent decrease in criminal case filings, and a 21-percent increase in bankruptcy filings.
