Abstract
A booklet briefly describes prescription drugs categorized as depressants, narcotics, and stimulants. Color photographs of various capsules and pills in these drug categories are provided, accompanied by ingredient names and amounts in milligrams. A digest of drugs of abuse discusses the use, misuse, production, and abusive effects of alcohol, cannabis, narcotics (heroin and methadone), stimulants (cocaine and amphetamines), depressants, hallucinogens, inhalants, and prescription drugs. Treatment of prescription drug addiction is described, and suggestions are offered for what parents, educators, students, and work managers can do about drug abuse. Drug abuse signs and alternatives to drug abuse are discussed. The digest provides a glossary of drug slang terms and references. Other material in the kit includes a quiz to test a person's knowledge about abusive drugs and a large colored chart that indicates the dependence potential, duration of effects, usual methods of administration, possible effects, and overdose effects for various drug types. Look-alike samples are provided for heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.
