DATA PROVIDED BY THE GERMAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC'S MINISTRY OF JUSTICE DERIVE FROM QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO SOCIOLOGICAL AND LEGAL INSTITUTES WITH RESEARCH INTERESTS, AS WELL AS TO INDIVIDUAL RESEARCHERS. MAJOR AREAS OF CONCENTRATION INCLUDE (1) ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE (COURTS, COURT OFFICIALS AND LAWYERS, TRIAL PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURES), (2) CIVIL LAW (CIVIL RIGHTS, ASSOCIATIONS, PRACTICES FOR VARIOUS BUSINESSES, CONTRACT LAW, FAMILY LAW, TRADE AND COMPETITION LAW, INFORMATION LAW), (3) CRIMINOLOGY AND PENAL LAW (EDUCATION, METHODS, STATISTICS, BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, SOCIOLOGICAL FACTORS, ENVIRONMENT, DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS, SPECIFIC CRIMES, CRIME CONTROL, VICTIMOLOGY, PENALTIES, JUVENILE CONVICTIONS, PSYCHIATRIC AND PEDAGOGIC THERAPY, PUBLIC OPINION, HISTORICAL CRIMINOLOGY), AND (4) PUBLIC AWARENESS OF LAW AND ITS IMPLICATIONS.
