Recent research on the relationship between deviant behavior and diet, nutrition, and biochemistry is suggesting that many school behavior problems may result from nutrition problems.
Abstract
Several studies have shown correlations between exposure to lead and other toxic metals and such factors as learning disabilities and extremely aggressive behavior. Studies of incarcerated juvenile offenders have also shown a connection between the consumption of refined sugar and antisocial behavior. Other research has suggested that some antisocial behavior is due to subclinical deficiencies of certain nutrients like iron and vitamin C. The research has not yet suggested simple nutritional cures to problem behavior, but it indicates the possibility of using the new information in helping schools address the problems of violence and disorder. 35 reference notes.
