These appendixes to volume I of the 1981 report on 'Race and Crime in Atlanta and Washington, D.C.' contain the general questionnaire; the community leader questionnaire; and descriptions of interviewing methods, editing, codebook construction, missing values, coding, and reliability.

Abstract

The study investigated criminological and sociological factors within the black communities of Atlanta, Ga., and the District of Columbia, focusing on the alleged high incidence of violent crime committed by blacks. Four communities within each city were selected for study. Two communities in each area were designated high-crime areas, and the other two were low-crime areas. Variables included the relationship of race and socioeconomic class to crime, fear of crime, experiences of crime, contacts with and attitudes toward the police, gender, and religion.
