The 117 institutional members of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (AJCS) were surveyed to determine faculty compensation for members of sociology and criminal justice departments. While not designed to explain differences in compensation, the survey raises questions about salary differences based on department affiliation, sex, race, or ethnicity.
Abstract
The findings indicate that full professors in sociology departments earn more than full professors in criminal justice departments, while associate professors and all lower ranks earn more in criminal justice departments. Furthermore, men earn more than women, and whites earn more than blacks. 1 table, 1 note.
