IN 1969 THE INSTITUTE OF BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH ESTABLISHED A PATIENT REPORTING SYSTEM FOR NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH-SUPPORTED DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAMS AS A DATA BASE FOR TREATMENT OUTCOME EVALUATION RESEARCH.
Abstract
THIS CONTRACTUAL ARRANGEMENT WITH TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY CREATED THE DRUG ABUSE REPORTING PROGRAM (DARP). THIS TWO-VOLUME REPORT BRINGS TOGETHER TWELVE MAJOR INSTITUTE OF BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH STUDIES AND PROVIDES A LONGITUDINAL ANALYSIS OF DATA CONCERNING THE OUTCOME OF TREATMENT FOR MORE THAN 11,000 PATIENTS IN 23 NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH-SUPPORTED FACILITIES. ALL OF THE STUDIES ARE RESTRICTED TO PATIENTS ADMITTED TO TREATMENT BETWEEN JUNE 1969 AND JUNE 1971, AND TO OUTCOMES DURING THE FIRST FULL YEAR FOLLOWING ADMISSION. THIS VOLUME, IS A DETAILED CONSIDERATION OF THE INDEX VARIABLES DEVELOPED TO RELATE INDIVIDUAL PATIENT CHARACTERISTICS AND RESPONSES TO THE TYPOLOGY EMPLOYED IN THE ANALYSES AND EVALUATIONS OF THE FIRST VOLUME (NCJ-28465). NINE INDICES ARE DEVELOPED TO MEASURE SUCH FACTORS AS CONDITIONS SURROUNDING INVOLVEMENT IN THE DRUG CULTURE, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, AND CRIMINAL HISTORY. DETAILED NORMATIVE TABULAR AND GRAPHIC DATA IS PRESENTED FOR EACH INDEX AND THE INDEXED DATA IS THEN DISTRIBUTED WITHIN EIGHT CLASSIFICATIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
