TWENTY-SEVEN EMPIRICALLY RESEARCHABLE PROPOSALS FOR DESIGN CHANGES WITHIN THE PRESENT PENAL SYSTEM OF THE UNITED STATES ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
Abstract
IN EACH CASE, THE FORM OF THE RESEARCH WOULD BE AS FOLLOWS: THE SPECIFIC PROPOSAL WOULD BE INSTITUTED IN SOME FACILITY OR COMMUNITY AND THE EFFECTS OF SUCH A CHANGE WOULD BE MEASURED AGAINST A CONTROL FACILITY, THUS COUPLING SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS WITH RESEARCH PRIORITIES. THE TYPES OF PROJECTS DESCRIBED INCLUDE PROPOSALS FOR STUDY ON PERSONAL SPACE, SELF-HELP KITCHENS, SMALL PRISONS, CONJUGAL VISITS, BOUNDARY LOCATION, AND A HIERARCHY OF PERSONAL SPACE.
