This manual describes research areas to be funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) in fiscal year 1987, fellowship programs, and grant application procedures.

Abstract

NIJ research will be funded through two of its offices: The Center for Crime Control Research and the Office of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Research. The Center for Crime Control Research will focus on research pertaining to drugs, alcohol, and crime; crime control theory and policy; offender classification and the prediction of criminal behavior; violent criminal behavior; and property offenders' perceptions of risks. The Office of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Research will sponsor research pertaining to victims and the criminal justice system, public safety and security, the apprehension and prosecution of offenders, the punishment and control of offenders, forensic and criminal justice technology, and supplements for the National Crime Survey. Information on NIJ fellowship programs -- visiting fellowships, graduate research fellowships, and summer research fellowships -- covers their scope, requirements, and application procedures. The manual specifies general application procedures, grantee requirements, performance standards, and grant application procedures (forms included).
