This resource and training manual is designed to provide trainers with materials and tools for raising awareness among service providers in Canada regarding how to address the needs of abused and neglected elderly persons.
Abstract
The kit includes sections composed of modules containing several presentations adaptable to teaching style and followed by lists of print and resources, casework scenarios with ideas for initiating discussion, handouts, and summaries. The sections provide basic information on the principles of adult education, suggestions on alternative workshop formats, characteristics and living arrangements of older adults in Canadian society, and the types of abuse and neglect that elderly persons experience. Further sections focus on identification and assessment of abuse of the elderly, intervention in cases of abuse of neglect, and prevention strategies. Copies of materials that can be photocopied and distributed as handouts, case studies, 46 references, and appended evaluation forms, sources of materials, and list of Advisory Group members
