This report from Nacro, a crime reduction charity located in England, contains information and resources for use by individuals who work with older prisoners.
Abstract
This resource guide was developed by Nacro, a crime reduction charity located in England that is dedicated to making society safer by reducing offending. This guide provides information for prison staff, disability liaison officers, peer support workers, and other interested stakeholders who strive to improve the day-to-day lives of older prisoners. The guide contains both the written resource guide and a CD of fact sheets, information, and activity ideas. The written guide has four sections: Part 1 provides background information on the problem of aging in prison and the main issues faced by older prisoners; Part 2 provides information for prisoners, staff, and visitors about health care for older prisoners; Part 3 provides information on good practice ideas that can be implemented in both the correctional facility and the community to enhance the lives of older prisoners; and Part 4 provides contact information for agencies and organizations that can offer support to older prisoners. The CD included with the written guide also contains four sections: a PowerPoint presentation detailing the workshop sessions; an exercise and activities folder; a resources and information folder; and a feedback folder.
