This handbook describes the components, establishment, organization, and management of a program (Paul and Lisa program) designed to combat the abuse and sexual exploitation of children.
Abstract
The program components are prevention education, streetwork outreach, and client rehabilitation. Prevention education informs students, communities, and professionals who work with youth about the dangers of sexual exploitation. The program helps identify youth who may be at risk of victimization because of their family circumstances or experiences of abuse and refers them to appropriate agencies. Street work outreach uses a mobile van and outreach workers to contact young female prostitutes on the streets of Manhattan to help meet their medical, social, and psychological needs. Client rehabilitation provides access to counseling and supervised living for young women who are ready to make the transition from street life to independent living. The chapter on organization and management addresses staffing, financial management, coordination and networking, and research and training. Steps are described for the establishment of a program, and resources are listed. Appended prevention education program materials, position descriptions, program organization chart, and program implementation checklist
