Abstract
The manual recommends a 4-phase, integrated loss control program to control and prevent loss. During the first phase, the retailer or a qualified consultant conducts a comprehensive security survey. During the second phase, the retailer analyzes the data collected during the survey to determine risks and trends and then prioritizes these risks to focus countermeasures. The third phase involves the design and implementation of the loss-control program, while the fourth phase entails the continuous testing of the program and adjustment as needed. Specific programs and technologies that have proven effective in reducing vulnerability to theft are described.
