These summaries of 46 papers, presented at the 1985 seminar on Australian criminological research, report on recently completed and ongoing research in the areas of crime, law enforcement, juvenile delinquency, courts, and corrections.
Abstract
The summaries of research have varied formats but generally cover research objectives and methodology. Summaries of completed research include findings and recommendations. Research dealing with various aspects of crime focuses on such topics as commercial extortion, corrupt attorneys, unemployment and crime, drunk driving, and drugs and crime. Research on juvenile delinquency considers female delinquency, police work with juveniles, and truancy. Research related to law enforcement addresses police training in domestic crisis intervention, police selection and performance evaluation, and responses to corporate misconduct. Court-related research covers such topics as prosecutorial discretion, sentencing reform, and appellate review of sentencing. Among the issues considered in corrections research are optimum prison size, training programs for property offenders, women inmates and drugs, capital punishment, volunteers in prison programs, and parole changes. Appendixes list the names and addresses of seminar participants and report on the seminar evaluation.
