This report provides a list and summaries of research reports on female offenders that have been prepared over the past few years by the New York State Division of Program Planning, Research and Evaluation.
Abstract
Over the years, the Division of Program Planning, Research and Evaluation has prepared a number of reports on female inmates under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Correctional Services. In order to facilitate the work of anyone interested in these reports, this document provides summaries of the contents of each of the reports, a checklist that is to be submitted with a request for copies and the name and address of the person to whom requests for copies should be made. Several of the reports deal with trends in the female inmate population over several years. There are two comparison reports. One compares male and female inmates and the other compares females in custody in 1912 to those in custody in 1982. Other reports deal with issues of domestic violence, drug offenses by females and the number of women committed for homicide. Security issues and adjustment of female inmates to prison life are addressed in another report. There are two reports on inmates mothers. Specifically, these reports deal with the nursery programs at Bedford Hills and Taconic Correctional Facilities.
