Abstract
FOLLOWING DEBATE OVER THEIR ABOLITION, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE COURTS WERE STRENGTHENED AND UNIFIED UNDER MONTANA'S NEW CONSTITUTION. THEY WERE SEEN AS THE MOST VIABLE MEANS OF ADMINISTERING SPEEDY JUSTICE AT THE LOWER COURT LEVEL TO THE MANY SPARSELY POPULATED COUNTIES. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE ELECTED POSITION, JURISDICTION, TRAINING AND SUPREVISION OF JUSTICES OF THE PEACE, AS WELL AS IMPROVEMENTS IN THE SUPPORT AND ADMINISTRATION OF THEIR COURTS.
