Statistics are presented on the population and capacity of Rhode Island's Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) for the period July 1980 to June 1981.
Abstract
The ACI is experiencing a rapidly increasing prison population. Although a high-security facility was opened during the year, the closing of parts of ACI's maximum-security divisions for court-ordered repairs still left a shortage of space. A dramatic increase in the pretrial population required the conversion of the high-security division's chapel area into a dormitory to accommodate the inmates. Data are presented on the ACI's current population, on the capacity of the various divisions of the ACI, on their population by month and by division, and on other events. Numerous tables are included.
