This handbook, provided to California correctional officer candidates when they enter the training academy, contains the rules and regulations of the State Department of Corrections and the training academy as well as information pertaining to the academy program and services.
Abstract
After briefly describing the academy and its program (six 5-day weeks of training at 10 hours a day), the handbook describes procedures for orientation day at the academy and the general daily schedule. The purposes and objectives of the State Department of Corrections and the training academy are then explained, followed by a presentation of departmental and training center rules and regulations. Cadet duty assignments and discipline are specified. Other training center procedures explained encompass living arrangements, meal service, other services for cadets, dress code, physical training, grooming, clothing and accessories, paydays, academic expectations, and on-the-job training expectations. The appendix contains a chart of the training center chain of command as well as forms to be completed by the cadets.
