FINAL REPORT ON A PROJECT DESIGNED TO ALLEVIATE THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PROBLEM IN AN AREA OF NEW MEXICO WHICH HAS A HIGH INCIDENCE OF POVERTY, LOS LUNAS.
Abstract
EFFORTS OF THE STAFF OF THE PROJECT WERE FOCUSED ON THE CHICANO COMMUNITY WITH THE INTENT OF DIMINISHING THE PARTICULAR PROBLEMS OF VENEREAL DISEASE, DRUG ABUSE, TRUANCY, ALCOHOL ABUSE, AND CONFLICTING INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, DIRECT INDIVIDUAL SERVICES WERE DEFERRED BY THE CENTER THROUGH INTERVIEWS AND REFERRAL SERVICES. A TABLE IS INCLUDED, ILLUSTRATING A BREAKDOWN OF THE CLIENTELE SERVED DURING THE PROJECT. RESULTS OF THIS REVIEW OF THE PROGRAM'S OPERATIONS REVEAL THAT IT WAS OSTENSIBLY SUCCESSFUL IN DELINQUENCY PREVENTION, PROMOTING CHICANO INVOLVEMENT, AND DEVELOPING RAPPORT BETWEEN YOUTH, PARENTS, SCHOOLS, AND PUBLIC AGENCIES....KAP
