RECOMMENDATIONS ADAPTED FROM THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON CIVIL DISORDERS, CONCERNING COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND THE CONTROL OF CIVIL DISORDERS.
Abstract
ONE AREA DISCUSSED IS THE RELATIONSHIP EXISTING BETWEEN THE POLICE AND MINORITY COMMUNITY RESIDENTS. FIVE BASIC PROBLEM AREAS IN POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS ARE IDENTIFIED. THESE CONCERN POLICE CONDUCT AND PRACTICES, POLICE PROTECTION, GRIEVANCE MECHANISMS, POLICY GUIDELINES, AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT. OTHER CONFERENCE ISSUES DEAL WITH PLANNING, TRAINING, THE USE OF FORCE, AND CONTROL EQUIPMENT, ADDITIONAL MATERIAL COVERS THE ROLE OF PUBLIC OFFICIALS, COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE IN DISORDER CONTROL, AND COORDINATING CONTROL RESPONSE.
