This publication of the Church of Scientology's Citizens Commission on Human Rights strongly criticizes the ability of psychiatrists to provide mental health care and contends that psychiatrists and psychiatric drugs actually generate crime and violence.
Abstract
The publication notes that statistical analyses, medical studies, and many individual cases demonstrate the violent and brutal effects of psychiatric practices. Drugs prescribed by psychiatrists may generate suicidal thoughts or turn users into psychotic killers. Further, a significant portion of psychiatrists sexually abuse their patients and employ electric shocks and drug-induced convulsions that cause brain damage. Psychiatrists, notorious for their own emotional problems, have the highest suicide rate of any profession. Even though psychiatrists and psychologists have never been asked to prove their value, their mental health programs dominate the educational system. Steps citizens can take to protect themselves against crimes committed by psychiatrists are identified.
