ANALYZATION OF ROBBERY BY STUDYING THE CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH IT OCCURS, AND THE RESPONSE OF THE POLICE AND OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES IN PREVENTION.
Abstract
BECAUSE SO LITTLE SYSTEMATIC RESEARCH HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ADDRESSED TO THE CRIME OF ROBBERY, THE STUDY PROBED A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT AREAS FOR NEW INSIGHTS AND GUIDELINES. TREATING ROBBERY AS A TOTAL BEHAVIOR SYSTEM, EFFORTS WERE MADE TO GATHER DATA ON SUCH MATTERS AS THE CHANGING COST OF ROBBERY INSURANCE, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PREVENTIVE MEASURES DEVELOPED FOR SUCH TARGETS AS TAXICABS AND BANKS, AND THE CHANGES IN DEFENSIVE MEASURES EMPLOYED BY CITIZENS AS REFLECTED IN PURCHASES OF GUNS, LOCKS, AND OTHER DEVICES.
