Abstract
THE IMPORTANCE OF POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS FOR POLICE OPERATIONS IS STRESSED, THE AUTHOR EMPHASIZES THAT IT IS THE POLICEMAN ON THE STREET AND NOT THE POLICE EXECUTIVE WHO CONSTANTLY REPRESENT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO THE AVERAGE CITIZEN. AMONG THE TYPES OF PROBLEMS DISCUSSED ARE EXCESSIVE AND OBVIOUS POLICE SUSPICION, TEMPER, LISTENING TO UNPROVEN RUMORS, PREJUDICE, LACK OF BRIDE, LACK OF FLEXIBILITY, ENVY, CREATING BAD PUBLIC IMPRESSIONS, AND LACK OF FRIENDLINESS TOWARD THE GENERAL PUBLIC. TYPES OF PERSONAL CONDUCT WHICH MAY CAUSE POOR IMPRESSIONS OF POLICE ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.
