Abstract
THE NEED FOR PRESTIGE AND STATUS FOR A CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT YET MORE DIFFICULT TO ACHIEVE. IN A SOCIETY THAT PLACES SO MUCH VALUE ON EDUCATION, THE NEED FOR THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE BECOMES PARAMOUNT. IT IS ONLY BY PROVIDING TRULY PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION THAT WE CAN EVER HOPE TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE DEMANDS MADE ON THE POLICE OFFICER AND THE ABILITY AND SKILL HE NEEDS TO EFFECTIVELY MEET THOSE DEMANDS.
