COOPERATIVE INTERSTATE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMS WHICH WOULD COMPLEMENT LEAA'S LAW ENFORCEMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM AND THE OVERALL PURPOSES OF THE SAFE STREETS ACT OF 1968.
Abstract
IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE STATES TAKE THE INITIATIVE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPROVEMENT THROUGH A PROGRAM INVOLVING MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT. TO MEET THIS END, THE PROPOSED INTERSTATE COMPACT WOULD ALLOW THE STATES TO SHARE EXISTING TRAINING AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND TO DEVELOP NEW PROGRAMS MUTUALLY FOR POLICE, COURT STAFF, OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL. STATES ADOPTING THE COMPACT WOULD ACCEPT PERSONS FROM OTHER PARTY STATES AT A RESIDENT TUITION CHARGE INTO TRAINING AND DEGREE PROGRAMS OFFERED BY STATE-SUPPORTED UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES.
