THIS NOTE DISCUSSES THREE APPLICATIONS OF ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY THAT POSSESS THE CUMULATIVE POTENTIAL TO ALTER THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE CRIMINAL COURT.
Abstract
THESE APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY ARE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE COURT STENOGRAPHER WITH VIDEOTAPE RECORDERS, THE USE OF VIDEOTAPE AS A RESEARCH TOOL TO ANALYZE JUROR BEHAVIOR AND JURY SELECTION, AND THE PRESENTATION OF PRERECORDED TESTIMONY AT A NEW TRIAL. CONSTITUTIONAL AND PROCEDURAL OBJECTIONS TO THEIR IMPLEMENTATION ARE ADDRESSED AS WELL AS PRACTICAL METHODS TO OVERCOME THESE OBSTACLES THROUGH IMPROVED EQUIPMENT DESIGN AND EXPERIMENTATION.
