Abstract
THE INDICATED OBJECTIVES OF PATROL ARE TO PROVIDE RAPID RESPONSE TO CALLS FOR SERVICE, TO PROMOTE POLICE CONCERN ABOUT A BEAT AREA, TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF SECURITY FOR THE PUBLIC, AND TO PREVENT CRIME. THE EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION FOR PATROL ARE DISCUSSED. GUIDELINES ON PATROL PROCEDURES ARE PROVIDED WHICH SUGGEST METHODS OF TRAVELLING AROUND THE BEAT AREA, GAINING FAMILIARITY WITH THE AREA, AND OBSERVING SUSPICIOUS SITUATIONS OR ACTIVITIES.
