THE 1978 ANNUAL REPORT ON THE LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES OF THE ROYAL POLICE FORCE OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS INCLUDES INFORMATION ON CRIME PATTERNS AND SOCIOECONOMIC CHANGES OF CRIMINOLOGICAL RELEVANCE.
Abstract
THE REPORT PRESENTS DESCRIPTIVE DATA ON THE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE LOCAL POLICE FORCE (RACIAL COMPOSITION, FINANCES, HEALTH, HOUSING, AND DISTRIBUTION OVER THE REGIONS). A GENERAL SURVEY OF THE YEAR PROVIDES INFORMATION ON VISITS, HONORS AND AWARDS, NEW LEGISLATION AFFECTING THE POLICE, AND OVERALL CRIME FIGURES. FOR THE YEAR'S RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING, DATA ARE SUPPLIED ON QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENLISTMENT, REFRESHER TRAINING, PROMOTIONS, AND WEAPON TRAINING. TABLES AND FIGURES PORTRAY TOTALS FOR VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF CRIME FOR THE PERIOD 1974-78, NUMBERS OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS, AND NUMBERS OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS. BRIEF SYNOPSES ARE GIVEN FOR USE OF CRIMINAL LABORATORY EQUIPMENT, VARIOUS RECORDS SYSTEMS, AND THE COURTS. FURTHER STATISTICS REVEAL TRAFFIC-RELATED INCIDENTS. FINALLY, SHORT DESCRIPTIONS FOCUS ON SPECIALIZED POLICE BRANCHES, SUCH AS THE FIRE BRIGADE, POLICEWOMEN, THE MARINE SECTION, THE CIVIL DISTURBANCE UNIT, AND THE AUXILIARY UNIT, AND ON OTHER POLICE ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WELFARE AND RECREATION. FOUR CHARTS DEPICT CASE AND PERSON DISPOSAL FOR CRIMINAL OFFENSES AND ACCORDING TO LOCAL LAWS. (MHP)
