This article, third in a series of articles that deal with the importance of officer fitness, examines the benefits of working out and carrying a Taser.
Abstract
This article details the TASER C2, a civilian version of the law enforcement device that, due to its unique design, is well suited for law enforcement fitness. The design of the Taser resembles that of an inexpensive razor, not a weapon. The various capabilities of the TASER C2 are described: it is a neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI) device yet it only fires the probes at 15 feet instead of the 30 feet associated with the Tasers used by law enforcement; once fired, the NMI pulse continues for 30 seconds; it contains a LED illuminator and laser-aiming device; the C2 cartridge is similar to that used by law enforcement but it is smaller and lighter; the cartridges contain Anti-Felon ID System (AFID) tagging for the purposes of identifying suspects at a later time; and the device is not intended to be recovered once it has been deployed. An online background check must be completed before the device can be activated. Due to the NMI phenomenon, the author recommends the use of the TASER C2 as a protective device.
