This videotape, audiotape, and booklet present a song and messages in which children teach children from prekindergarten through sixth grade to recognize and respond appropriately to potentially dangerous situations involving strangers and potential child sexual abuse or other inappropriate behavior by a familiar adult or a stranger.
Abstract
The Safe Song encourages children to say no to potential perpetrators, to leave the dangerous situation, and to tell a trusted person about the incident. The children in the videotape sing the song, present scenarios involving potential danger to the child, and give instructions to children on how to act. Situations involve a stranger who offers candy or some other item, an adult who asks the child to come for a ride in a car, an adult who invites the child into a house, a stranger who offers to take the child home from the part or another place, and a familiar adult who touches the child inappropriately. The booklet presents a teaching outline for using the materials in the classroom. Illustrations and classroom exercise
