THIS FILM OUTLINES SOME IMPORTANT CRIME PREVENTION TACTICS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS TO INCREASE SAFETY ON THE STREETS AND TO DECREASE CHANCES OF ROBBERY AND ATTACK.
Abstract
THE FILM IS THE FOURTH IN A FOUR-PART SERIES OF CRIME PREVENTION FILMS TO HELP SENIOR CITIZENS PROTECT THEIR INCOME, MAKE THEIR HOMES MORE SECURE, AND ENHANCE THEIR SAFETY IN CARS, BUSES, AND ON THE STREETS. USING DRAMATIZED SCENES OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN VARIOUS STREET SITUATIONS, THE FILM SUGGESTS HOW TO AVOID PURSE-SNATCHING BY CARRYING A WALLET IN A MOVIE LINE INSTEAD OF A PURSE, AND HOW TO CARRY A PURSE SO THAT THE CONTENTS WILL SPILL IF THE PURSE IS TAKEN. SENIOR CITIZENS ARE ADVISED TO LET A PURSE-SNATCHER GO, RATHER THAN STRUGGLING FOR THE PURSE, IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE ASSAULT AND INJURY. A DRAMATIC BANK ROBBERY SCENE SUGGESTS WAYS IN WHICH A SENIOR CITIZEN CAN ASSIST THE POLICE BY CAREFULLY NOTING DOWN A DESCRIPTION OF THE ROBBER, THE CAR, AND CAR LICENSE NUMBER. THE FILM ALSO EMPHASIZES THAT SENIOR CITIZENS SHOULD TRY TO AVOID WALKING IN UNKNOWN AREAS ALONE AT NIGHT, SHOULD STAY IN LIGHTED AREAS, IF POSSIBLE, AND SHOULD ASK FOR HELP IF THEY SUSPECT THEY ARE BEING FOLLOWED. IT FURTHER SUGGESTS THAT GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS MAY BE A SENIOR CITIZEN'S BEST PROTECTION. FOR OTHER FILMS IN THE SERIES, SEE NCJ 6743-34. (AOP)
