VARIOUS TYPES OF SAFES AND VAULTS ARE LISTED TO PROVIDE WEST GERMAN POLICE COUNSELORS WITH UNIFORM SECURITY CLASSIFICATIONS FOR SUCH CONTAINERS.
Abstract
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE SET BY THE RESEARCH AND TESTING ASSOCIATION FOR SAFES AND VAULTS TO REDUCE RISKS BY ASSURING QUALITY STANDARDS AND CERTIFYING PRODUCTS OF INDIVIDUAL COMPANIES. IT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT THE RISK OF A SAFE'S BEING BURGLARIZED IS DIRECTLY CORRELATED TO ITS AGE BECAUSE OF THE IMPROVMENT IN BURGLAR'S TOOLS, THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE SAFETY OF ANY GIVEN SAFE, AND THE REDUCTION OF THE SAFE'S MECHANICAL SAFETY WITH WEAR. STEEL SAFES WITH SINGLE, DOUBLE, AND MULTIPLE WALLS, AS WELL AS ARMORED AND HEAVILY ARMORED SAFES ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL AND ASSIGNED OFFICIAL SAFETY CLASSIFICATIONS. WITHOUT THE OFFICIAL CLASSIFICATION SEAL OF THE COMMITTEE FOR SUPPLYING CONDITIONS AND SECURITY OF VALUABLES OF THE GERMAN STANDARDS COMMITTEE (RAL), NO SAFE CAN BE CONSIDERED SUITABLE FOR STORING VALUABLES. TECHNICAL RAL STANDARDS FOR VAULTS APPLY TO GENERAL SAFETY MEASURES, SPACE DISTRIBUTION, VAULT SPACE, INTERIOR VAULT SPACE, DOORS, VENTILATION, SAFE BOXES, AND CONCRETE COVERING OF WALLS AND FLOORS; THESE SPECIFICATIONS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY BUILDERS, ARCHITECTS, AND CONSTRUCTION FIRMS AND WORKERS. RAL CLASSIFICATIONS FOR VAULT DOORS ARE DELINEATED IN DETAIL, AS ARE SPECIFICATIONS FOR ARCHIVAL ROOMS. IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT THE DESCRIPTIONS ARE TO ENCOURAGE USE OF THE UNIFORM DESIGNATIONS AND CLASSIFICATIONS OFFICIALLY APPLIED TO THESE OBJECTS. ILLUSTRATIONS ARE SUPPLIED. --IN GERMAN. (KMD)
