THIS REPORT, DATED APRIL 1977, ANALYZES THE RECORDS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF THE NEW SALEM DISTRICT COURT, WHICH HAS JURISDICTION IN EIGHT MASSACHUSETTS TOWNS.
Abstract
THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED TO PROVIDE GENERAL PLANNING GUIDANCE TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURT FOR IMPROVING RECORDS AND FILING PRACTICES ONCE THE CLERK'S OFFICE WAS MOVED TO A NEW DISTRICT COURT FACILITY. THIS ASSISTANCE WAS TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS FILING SYSTEMS, EQUIPMENT NEEDS, AND INTERNAL OFFICE PLANNING RELATING TO THE CLERK'S AND PROBATION OFFICES. AMONG RECOMMENDATIONS, THE CONSULTANTS STATED THAT THE COURT SHOULD MAINTAIN ONLY THREE INDEXES, INSTEAD OF FIVE; AND THEY SHOULD INCLUDE CRIMINAL, CIVIL, AND SMALL CLAIMS. IT WAS FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT THE COURT SHOULD ADOPT A NUMBERING SYSTEM WITH AN INTEGRATED YEAR AND CASE TYPE DIFFERENTIATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED) ...KAP
