REPORT SHOWS HOW AN AUTOMATED DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM COULD IMPROVE EFFICIENCY OF A COURT DISPOSITION REPORTING SYSTEM.
Abstract
RECORDS OF COURT DISPOSITIONS ARE VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTANT FOR THE HIGH VOLUME COURTS OF SALT LAKE CITY AND COUNTY WHERE SOME 50 PERCENT OF ALL STATEWIDE REPORTABLE CRIME OCCURS. TO GAUGE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN INFORMATION SYSTEM, A STUDY WAS MADE OF THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, THE JUSTICES OF THE PEACE, THE COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, CITY COURT, COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE, AND UTAH BUREAU OF IDENTIFICATION. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE DEVELOPING A PROMIS (PROSECUTORS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM) DATA SYSTEM AS THE BASIC SOURCE FOR COURT DISPOSITIONS, DEVELOPING NEW PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT CURRENTLY UNSERVICED AGENCIES, AND SELECTING A COORDINATOR FOR BOTH LONG AND SHORT RANGE EFFORTS....BS
