RESULTS OF A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION WHICH EXAMINED THE APPLICABILITY OF LASER MICROPROBE ANALYSIS TO TRACE METAL DETECTION AND QUANTITATION.
Abstract
THE LASER MICROPROBE TECHNIQUE EMPLOYS A LASER BEAM TO EXCITE THE SAMPLE, WITH THE RESULTING EMISSION BEING ANALYZED BY A SPECTROMETER. SOLID, SEMISOLID, AND LIQUID SAMPLES WERE ANALYZED USING THIS TECHNIQUE. THE LASER MICROPROBE WAS FOUND TO BE READILY USABLE WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF SAMPLE TYPES AND LITTLE OR NO SAMPLE PREPARATION WAS REQUIRED. MORE EXTENSIVE ACCURACY AND SENSITIVITY STUDIES ARE CURRENTLY UNDER WAY.
