THE PRIMARY EMPHASIS OF THIS FOUR-PROJECT STUDY WAS TO DEFINE HOW THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE PROVIDED ACCESS TO LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES IN THE SAN DIEGO REGION.
Abstract
ALSO INVESTIGATED WAS HOW THESE AGENCIES SYSTEMATICALLY SHOULD PROCESS AND RESPOND TO THOSE REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE. PROJECT D WAS AIMED AT CONCEPTUALIZING THE DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATED REGIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEM WHICH COULD SERVICE ALL THE LAW AND JUSTICE AGENCIES IN THE SAN DIEGO REGION. THE STUDY HAD A SECONDARY GOAL OF IDENTIFYING BRIEFLY OTHER ELECTRONIC DATA PROCESSING APPLICATIONS OF INTEREST TO INDIVIDUAL AGENCIES AND INTEGRATING THEM INTO A PHASED IMPLEMENTATION PLAN. THIS REPORT, THE SECOND OF TWO VOLUMES, CONTAINS A DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR ELECTRONIC DATA PROCESSING APPLICATIONS FOR ALL THE AGENCIES, WITH PROPOSED OUTPUT REPORTS AND FILE DESIGNS FOR THE MULTI-AGENCY APPLICATIONS. IT ALSO INCLUDES SINGLE AGENCY APPLICATIONS. EACH OF THE FOLLOWING FOUR MAJOR FUNCTIONAL AREAS ARE CONSIDERED INDIVIDUALLY - LAW ENFORCEMENT, COURTS, PROSECUTION, AND PROBATION, AS WELL AS THE INTERFUNCTIONAL APPLICATIONS. AN APPROACH TO ORGANIZING THE COMPUTER FILES IS ALSO DESCRIBED. FOR VOLUME ONE, 'MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW, POLICY CONSIDERATIONS, AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN8' SEE NCJ-036336.
