CONSIDERATIONS RELATING TO RELEASE PRIOR TO TRIAL INCLUDING EFFECT OF THE PRESENT BAIL SYSTEM DEFECTS AND REMEDIES, PREVENTIVE DETENTION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
Abstract
THE SAN FRANSISCO COMMITTEE ON CRIME SUGGESTS THAT THE BEST REMEDY FOR THE INEQUALITIES IN THE BAIL SYSTEM IS TO GUARANTEE THAT ALL DEFENDANTS BE BROUGHT TO TRIAL SWIFTLY. USE OF RELEASE ON RECOGNIZANCE IS ENDORSED. THE COMMITTEE URGES THE STATE LEGISLATURE ENACT LAWS TO ALLOW TRIAL JUDGES TO IMPOSE SUPERVISORY CONDITIONS ON DEFENDANTS RELEASED BEFORE TRIAL.
