The activities and achievements of Santa Clara County's Juvenile Probation Department (California) for fiscal year 1980-81 are discussed.

Abstract

For the past 2 years, the department has sponsored a Child Abuse Conference for professionals to make them more aware of the problem, the mandatory reporting laws, etc. In 1981, in excess of 400 professionals attended the conference. Continuity of ward committed to the department's rehabilitation facilities was improved by assigning the same probation officer to a juvenile offender's case during commitment as well as after graduation. Total department referrals continued to decline during 1980-81, down 7 percent from last year. Almost all types of referrals decreased except for dependent referrals.
